Pointe West Performances - PWP Student Company

Pointe West Performances dance company is designed as a training ground to expose dancers to the process of rehearsal and performance in a repertory season.
“Eclectic repertory for the serious dancer” (including ballet, jazz, and musical theatre) challenges and enriches the pre-professional students and professional adults who comprise the company. In keeping with its mission of performance excellence, educational enrichment, and community outreach, PWP continues to perform in theatres, schools, hospitals, nursing home, homeless shelters, historic sites, non-traditional settings, and even on film!

. In keeping with its standards of excellence, PWP Company members are trained and well-versed in the ballet classics; they have the additional benefit of exposure to repertory in jazz, musical theatre, tap, and modern dance. Artistic Director, Suzanne Winland, and Jazz Director, Joli Oliver, combine with guest choreographers to mount pieces for both segments of PWP on a frequent basis.

The students in the PWP dance company participate in an advanced studies class called COP Enrichment: it introduces kids to subjects such as dance history, world cultural studies, partnering, body conditioning, movement analysis, choreography, music for dancers, acting, performance techniques, audition techniques, resume building, hair & makeup techniques, and other subjects which do not fit into traditional classroom schedules. Children are also exposed to world renowned summer studies programs as part of their COP Enrichment. PWP students often attend the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C. PWP members have attended the ABT Summer Studies Program, Jazz Dance World Congress (hosted by Giordano Dance Chicago), and the Broadway Theatre Project in Florida (designed by Broadway legend Ann Reinking).
